The mining industry of Aue of the former centuries had never been as famous as the Schneeberg or Freiberg mining industry. It has however, a sector that whose fame was known even across the borders of the region and that formed an important chapter of the Saxon history. That is the mining of kaolin at the "Weiße Erdenzeche" in the 18th and 19th centuries.
This site delivered the argillaceous earth, that was very much in demand, to the porcelain manufacturer at Meißen. Invaluble works of art made from white porcelain were created, using the "white earth" from Aue.
