On the 30th November 2003, the agreement of the twinning was signed by the representatives of both cities. In knowing our common history, both partners want to continue the age-old tradition of German-Czech cooperation. The idea of entering into a twinning with a Czech city was inspired by good neighborliness and cross-border cooperation on the way to a common Europe.
By this twinning, Aue and Kadan want to create the basis of reciprocal cooperation and for a deeper understanding between the citizens of both cities. Both want to make a contribution to the interaction of people in the Czech-German border region under the umbrella of a common European house.
Both cities see their twinning as a way of cooperation of the municipalities, social organizations and cooperation as well as the improving of the contacts between people on both sides of the border, particularly in the fields of tourism, informatics and advertising, in the field of cultural exchanges, education, schools, sports and youth work. Furthermore, a cooperation in the fields of the preservation of historical monuments, environmental protection, development of the infrastructure, exchange of small business and craftsmen as well as the cooperation between clubs and church associations.
